A New Vision

I’m writing this week’s Briefs from the LensCrafters store just a few minutes from my house, while they swap new lenses into my current frames. And it occurred to me as I was driving to the store, that the idea of “vision” made perfect sense to talk about today.

This is the very last TaxCoach Briefs we’ll ever publish. We’ve been doing it since 2006, when it was an unattractive, plain-text thing. No sizzle, just steak – mostly practical, actionable strategies you can use to find new prospects, excite their interest with something nobody else is offering, and build the business of your dreams.

Of course, this won’t be the last Briefs. Next week, we’ll be back with the Tax Master Briefs, a product of our new vision. And we can’t wait for you to see it, too.

When Keith VandeStadt and I launched TaxCoach in 2005, it was a neat little tool for presenting tax-planning ideas to your clients. We quickly learned that “software” wasn’t enough. So we worked to bring you marketing ideas, tools, and templates to carry your new message to your client. And damned if it didn’t work! We heard early success stories, created a coaching & masterminding group, and started hosting regional and national meetings where you could network with your peers.

Today, we position TaxCoach as a system, not just a software package – a three-legged stool that includes the core planning application, the marketing collateral, and the community itself. That vision has served you well as we have grown. But we’ve realized it’s not enough.

So now we launch the Tax Master Network® – a vision of a new planning service that makes you the center of an entire network of client-focused resources to actually implement the plans you sell.

You’ll see the first changes in the next few days, mostly cosmetic. Over the coming months, though, you’ll see new business development tools like the Tax Master Network® Tax Strategy Analyzer, a spreadsheet to quantify and communicate the expected value of certain strategies. (And don’t worry, there are plenty more on deck.) And we’ll be introducing you to a group of service providers who can help implement your planning, along with, in many cases, generous commissions and referral fees.

While you’re waiting, I’d like to suggest you spend some time thinking about your own vision. What do you want your business to look like? A busy, bustling tax shop? A quiet, classy boutique? Or something in between? Do you want to take advantage of the trust and respect your clients already have for you to offer financial advisory services? Or would you rather find a complementary partner to serve those clients’ needs? Do you like the energy of a busy tax season? Or would you just as soon never touch another 1040 (besides your own)?

Keep an eye out for our new vision of how we can help you achieve those goals. And buckle your seat belts . . . it’s going to be quite a ride!
